The most beautiful single thing in the world is the female body with it's richness of varying forms, shapes, highlights and shades.

What is there a photograph can offer to the viewer that is not in the shape itself?

There is a nice shape of a wave in your photo. If your intention was to outline a wave you have done a good job. I find your wave a bit too light, almost pale - and thus even shy. I'd like to see more shadows, several sources of light; the light you are using is almost global altough I know it can't be unless you did everything in Photoshop.

Outline a nice wave you did.
iris: Judging by your words referring to the female body I think you and Pablo Neruda might have something in common. If you haven't read "Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair” yet, I highly recommend it to you.
I was introduced to his work recently by Nostalgia: http://nostalgia.shutterchance.com/photoblog/In_The_Garden_Of_Nostalgia%3A_Bowing_To_The_King_/ and it changed my little world as well.

I see what you mean when you say you'd like to see more shadows. But with your description "almost pale - and thus even shy" you are very close to what I had in mind, Pekka. smile

Amazing curves! but need a black background to appreciate it fully.
iris: Well, I had quite a hard time to decide wheter I should choose the black or the white background. But in the end - for what I had in mind - the white one worked better. I really love the freedom we have here on shutter to go either black or white smile
I disagree with eva. It was a bold thing not to make this in monocrome. There must be good reasons to it. I think Iris knows what she does. As to the color the background is ok. All I wanted was some more variation in a structure that is not flat by its nature.
iris: Actually I do have a monochrome version (of course I converted it, as I have a weakness for black and white smile) But for me it lacks the feel of intimacy that I wanted to achieve.
As to the structure: I didn't do much in photoshop. That's the way my lens captured her. I used the natural light that was shining through two skylight windows.

hmmmmmmmmmm think i shall get my surf board out irisgrin

beautiful indeed smile
iris: You better do that, Tim smile No surfing without a surf board, right? smile
When I look at this beautiful image, I keep thinking silk ribbon, it must be the softness of the skin.
iris: You know, I was heavily inspired by Pablo Neruda's "Ode To A Naked Beauty". His words are so smooth and tender and so passionate and descriptive, that they created such a silky image in my mind. I thank you for noticing, Linda. smile

This is very beautiful Iris, the pose is just perfect, tensed in a very delightful way, sensual and mysterious!
iris: I love the words you found here, Codrin. So thoughtful and sensitive. I thank you for that.

I see an arch
And feel this cannot be a bad thing
Whatever the colour
iris: Oh yes, I totally agree with you, Ray! Arches aren't bad at all. Isn't it interesting that curvaceous forms have a special appeal to us? I find them magically sensual, even if it's "just" a beautifully designed spoon made of steel for example. But I have to confess that the curves of a human body and the softness of its skin are hard to exceed.
